Municipal IT under control: How Kapfenberg is rethinking Mobile Security
Digital governance requires strong partnerships
From central administrative services to the sports center, service center, and kindergartens: The city of Kapfenberg operates a diverse municipal infrastructure with approximately 380 employees and a wide range of requirements for mobile devices and IT security. To manage smartphones centrally, securely, and efficiently, the city relies on Relution—in collaboration with its regional partner, AH trade IT GmbH.
Already today, around 90 mobile devices are managed via Relution—and that number is on the rise. The goal is to integrate all work-related smartphones into the mobile device management solution in the future. In addition to Android devices, iPhones and iPads are also in use.
Mobile Security for Everyday Municipal Operations
For the City of Kapfenberg, security and practicality are central to day-to-day administrative operations. The goal is to integrate all work-related mobile devices into Relution in the future. The demands placed on mobile devices are constantly increasing, and at the same time, these devices must be managed securely, reliably, and efficiently.
In addition to technical management, employee security awareness also plays a key role. “We’re working very hard to raise our employees’ awareness of cybersecurity—so that devices remain protected and employees don’t click on every email,” says Manuel Steidl of the Kapfenberg municipality. The fact that devices are assigned to specific individuals further supports this approach. Responsibilities are clearly defined, and employee acceptance of the system in day-to-day operations is high.
From Online Research to a Long-Term Partnership
The Kapfenberg municipal administration first became aware of Relution through online research and subsequently through the Relution website. It quickly became clear that Relution could meet the needs of public administration in a flexible and modern way.
The collaboration with a regional contact person right on site was particularly important. Together with AH trade IT GmbH, a strong partnership developed between the customer, the vendor, and the implementation partner.
A Win-Win-Win Situation for the Municipality, Partners, and the Manufacturer
Andreas from AH trade IT GmbH is working closely with the city of Kapfenberg to implement and further develop the solution. “Many organizations today recognize that mobile device management is essential. But they often lack the experience needed to implement it. That’s exactly where we step in, together with Relution.”
Andreas particularly emphasizes the collaborative partnership: “This is a true win-win-win situation: The city gets a modern and secure solution. Relution provides the technological foundation and supports implementation and ongoing support.”
For Relution, too, the project demonstrates how important local partner networks are in the public sector. The combination of modern technology, personalized service, and practical support builds trust—especially in municipal environments with diverse requirements.
Flexible Device Management for the Public Sector
With Relution, the Kapfenberg municipal administration is laying the foundation for secure, centralized, and future-proof management of mobile devices. At the same time, the project demonstrates how flexibly Relution supports a wide variety of applications in the public sector—from administration and field service to municipal service facilities.
The close collaboration between the City of Kapfenberg, AH trade IT, and Relution forms the foundation for sustainable digitalization that offers a high level of security and direct practical relevance.
