Digitalpakt Schule
The Digitalpakt Schule is a joint funding programme by the German federal government and the states aimed at digitizing schools across Germany. The first Digitalpakt ran from 2019 to 2024 and comprised a total of around 7.15 billion euros, which were used to equip schools nationwide with digital infrastructure such as Wi-Fi, devices, and interactive whiteboards. With Digitalpakt 2.0, agreed upon by the federal government and the states in December 2025, the programme will continue from 2026 to 2030 with a total of 5 billion euros, financed equally by the federal government and the states.
Digitalpakt 2.0 takes a more holistic approach than its predecessor. In addition to the ongoing modernization of technical infrastructure, it funds educational software, professional technical support, and targeted teacher training in the use of digital media for the first time. Another goal is the simplification of administrative processes: school authorities will in future be able to receive lump-sum funding allocations, significantly reducing the bureaucratic burden of the application process.
For municipal school authorities, Digitalpakt 2.0 represents a significant investment opportunity in the digital learning environment of their schools. Schools that already acquired tablets, laptops, and network infrastructure under the first Digitalpakt are now faced with the challenge of managing these device fleets on a long-term basis, operating them securely, and continuing to develop them. This is precisely where the need for central management solutions grows — ones capable of efficiently administering large numbers of devices across multiple school sites.
A key advantage of Digitalpakt 2.0 over its predecessor is the explicit funding of maintenance and support structures. The first Digitalpakt had in many places led to a mountain of devices that could barely be managed professionally due to a lack of IT staff. The new edition aims to address this structural shortcoming, ensuring that the devices procured can also be used sustainably in the classroom.
For the devices funded through the Digitalpakt to be used securely, in compliance with the GDPR, and efficiently, a central management solution is needed — one that enables school authorities to configure tablets and laptops uniformly for everyday school use across all sites.
