Relution Decon - Intelligent content filtering for a protected digital environment

In an increasingly digitalized world, people are spending more time online. The internet should be a safe space that enables people to learn and work with confidence and peace of mind. This is why there is a growing need for digital security to ward off cyber attacks and filter access to unwanted content - especially in sensitive areas such as schools, companies and public institutions.

Why Relution Decon?

Relution Decon is an AI-based add-on developed specifically for iOS and iPadOS. It provides effective protection by dynamically filtering harmful and inappropriate websites and apps. At the same time, it optimizes the learning and working environment by minimizing distractions from unwanted sites.

Administrators can easily set restrictions for certain categories of websites and apps. They retain the flexibility to allow or block individual sites and apps. This allows you to create a secure digital environment anytime, anywhere.

How does Relution Decon work?

Relution Decon uses a content filter app that monitors and filters network access on devices. The Relution Decon AI analyzes and classifies websites in real time, recognizes both text and images and saves previously analyzed pages to increase efficiency.

Platform support of Relution Decon

In the first release Relution Decon is available for iOS and iPadOS. An update for macOS is planned, and we are looking into support for Android and Windows platforms.

Simple integration of Relution Decon

The new “Relution Decon” policy enables administrators to control content effectively. They can flexibly allow or block categories of content and manage specific URLs and apps via customizable lists. If a website is in a blocked category set by administrators, access is automatically denied and the user is redirected to a customized block page. Users can request unblocking for incorrectly blocked sites, while administrators have the option to manually unblock or block individual websites.

Further information can be found in our manual.

The Decon app

The Decon policy in Relution automatically installs the Decon app on all devices. Users can monitor the status of Decon and view the reasons for blocked websites. The app also activates the system-wide DNS proxy, which runs in the background and cannot be deactivated by the user. This increases security and ensures continuous protection of all devices.

Secure data exchange

Relution attaches great importance to the protection of personal data. The Decon server uses DNS over HTTPS to ensure that all data transmissions are encrypted by SSL, regardless of whether the solution is used on your premises (on-premises) or in the German cloud. This keeps your data and privacy protected and prevents DNS providers from tracking your online activity through your DNS requests.

The Decon system does not collect any website information directly on the device. Instead, filtering is based solely on domain names and publicly available information. All logged data is anonymized so that administrators cannot identify which device has accessed which website. They only see aggregated data, such as the total number of requests from a user.

Content control with one click

Administrators can define a policy for Decon in the Relution, which of the following categories they want to block or allow:

  • Adult Content: Blocks websites with potentially harmful or inappropriate content for minors, including pornography, violence, weapons, drugs, gambling, adult shopping and dating. To ensure user safety, the filter also activates Google Safe Search, which hides inappropriate content during Google searches. This guarantees comprehensive protection, ensuring that minors can surf in a protected and age-appropriate digital environment.

  • Advertising: Contains all content relating to advertisements and advertising materials - for example, websites that advertise products and services, as well as platforms that present advertising providers.

  • Communication: Includes websites and services that deal with communication, including email, messenger and (video) calls.

  • Social Media: This category includes all content related to social media, including platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok and similar services.

  • Entertainment: Includes entertainment-oriented websites that can distract users from relevant topics in educational or professional environments. This also includes video streaming platforms.

  • Music: Includes music streaming providers such as Spotify and Tida.

  • News: Refers to current news and weather reports.

  • Shopping: Lists the shopping sites that do not already fall under “adult content”. This includes online stores such as Amazon and eBay, which offer a wide range of products and services.

  • Work: Includes work-related websites to increase productivity. This includes platforms for office applications and file sharing services that facilitate the exchange of information and collaboration within a company.

  • Education: Contains websites designed for learning and knowledge transfer, such as Wikipedia and Google Scholar.

  • Generative AI: Websites that provide access to various AI services, such as ChatGPT and Perplexity.ai, are assigned to this filter.

  • Phishing – more than just a content filter: The filter for the “Phishing” category blocks access to risky phishing websites that aim to trick users into revealing sensitive information such as passwords, credit card details and personal details. These protective measures make it safe to navigate the Internet. Relution Decon thus goes beyond a pure youth and content filter and ensures holistic security in the digital space.
