Relution redevelops the VPN technologie for BARMER

Rethinking health

BARMER, one of the largest and oldest statutory health insurance companies in Germany, thinks health further and offers its policyholders high-quality and innovative medical care. The company, whose history stretches back to 1867, is constantly driving health and safety forward. The latest examples of this are the electronic patient file, the BARMER app and a constantly growing range of digital services.

The topics of (data) security and digital processes also have top priority internally. Highly sensitive data and documents must be specially protected against access from public networks; at the same time, the almost 5,000 employees from the sales, administration and management departments need fast, uncomplicated access to internal company services with their mobile iOS devices. The secure and coded connection from an external network to internal resources such as email accounts, intranet, file systems and drives is to be implemented at BARMER with the help of its own VPN solution (Virtual Private Network) in combination with an MDM system (Mobile Device Management).

A suitable partner was sought for the implementation of these requirements and was found in Relution. Above all, the scope of services, the provision of an individual, secure solution and also the price spoke in favor of Relution," explains Sven Metzler, "Mobile Communications" project manager in the "Workplace Arbeitsplatz" team.

UNIFORM DEVICE MANAGEMENT AND WORLDWIDE

SECURE ACCESS TO CORPORATE NETWORKS The basis for secure access to internal resources is the centralized inventory, configuration, management and protection of end devices, the core function of Relution. Thanks to standardized remote management, devices that do not comply with defined guidelines and security requirements (non-compliant) can be displayed directly and the connection to the BARMER infrastructure can be blocked.

In addition to the clear distribution of apps and content, Relution is also suitable for connecting to existing systems. As a result, the Relution team was able to set up an entire VPN system that was specially adapted to the requirements and linked to Relution's MDM and integrated into the BARMER infrastructure.

RELUTION FILES APP

The Relution Files app enables BARMER-defined files and applications to be used automatically for secure communication and encryption of data traffic over the Internet without the need for additional individual login data. "We had no standard requirements and were looking for a customized solution. We knew that a VPN couldn't simply be set up and implemented on the fly," says Kai Dückers, Project Manager at Workplace.

In addition to the time issue, there was the fact that the smooth interaction with many partners had to be implemented. "This solution is the interaction of different systems and configurations. You have to pull together and act as a team," continues Dückers. "We succeeded in doing this because the cooperation on the part of Relution was and is very constructive, positive and solution-oriented. Initial technical challenges were quickly and successfully eliminated together. All technical criteria were implemented excellently by Relution after consultation," concludes Dückers.

E&W AND RELUTION - A STRONG PARTNERSHIP FOR A

BROAD NETWORK For over a year and a half, E&W AG & Co. KG, the German subsidiary of the Swiss company Eris AG, and Relution have enjoyed a strong partnership for over half a year to jointly drive forward a wide range of digitalization projects. E&W offers secure solutions for complex IT system landscapes and individual tasks in all areas of IT. In addition to over 25 years of experience and many successfully implemented projects in the field of mobile device management (MDM) on the part of E&W, this partnership shows above all that you can achieve more together than alone. E&W's broad network was the door opener for the successful collaboration between BARMER and Relution.
