Digitization in the Rhine-Neckar District Digitization - with Relution
Conveniently located between the Rhine and Neckar rivers; settled by Romans, Celts and Alemanni: Customs, lively exchange, culture and education have always been part of the eventful history of the Rhine-Neckar district. This has not changed until today. Even the latest challenge, the digitization of schools, is mastered - with Relution.
The Rhine-Neckar district is responsible for the school IT of a total of 16 schools; 12 vocational schools and four special education and counseling centers. In the event of technical questions, network administrators, teachers with teaching hours, are available to each school as first level support on site, and for more in-depth problems, the IT team of the school board is available as second level support.
ONE County, MANY REQUIREMENTS
In order to drive forward the digitization of its educational facilities and create modern learning environments, the Rhine-Neckar district was the first to update its technical infrastructure. With the expansion of fiber optic rings and the provision of nationwide WiFi, important hardware requirements in particular have been met. Now the focus is on providing mobile devices to enable digital instruction.
Across the county, more than 12,000 tablets, notebooks and cell phones are managed in mixed-mode across platforms. The more than 7,500 Apple devices are made up of the various device types iPads, iPhones as well as Apple TVs.
PRIVACY-COMPLIANT MULTI-USER MODE
Thanks to the DigitalPakt Schule, all teachers have been equipped with personal mobile devices. Pupils are equipped with both individual 1:1 devices and shared devices. Thanks to the multi-user mode (Relution Shared Device Mode) of Relution, these devices can be used by multiple users in the classroom: with the help of a personal login, the devices can be used by multiple students. "A plus point of Relution is the compliance with data protection. Unlike other manufacturers, the Relution shared device mode does not communicate with cloud solutions outside the EU and is also developed in Germany. This is of enormous importance to us as a public authority," explains Thomas Jödicke, Head of IT Schools, Rhein- Neckar-Kreis (Eigenbetrieb Bau, Vermögen und Informationstechnik).
SECURE CLIENT CAPABLE OPERATION
The high standards in terms of security are also reflected in data sovereignty: the data is hosted in the company's own data center in Heidelberg and Relution is operated in an on-premises solution. In addition, multi-client capability enables full data sovereignty. "All our schools are set up on the same server as individual clients. This practical separation allows us to manage schools independently at the same time, without giving them insight into each other's data," Jödicke affirms. In addition to an intuitive user interface optimized for schools, Lost Mode is another clear advantage with such a large number of managed devices. "Via Relution, lost or stolen devices can be completely locked remotely," Jödicke continues. The Rhein-Neckar-Kreis appreciates Relution's broad portfolio, the convincing price-performance ratio and the short communication channels: "The support is reliable, helpful and highly qualified. We are very satisfied and feel we are in good hands," says the department head.
