Why more and more Relution customers are switching from on-premises to the cloud
Relution offers maximum flexibility in the choice of operating model – whether as a classic on-premises solution for organizations with their own IT infrastructure or as a GDPR-compliant cloud service in certified German data centers.
Many schools, educational institutions, and organizations consciously choose local hosting in order to retain complete control over their infrastructure and data. However, with increasing complexity, a growing number of devices, rising security requirements, and limited IT resources, it is becoming clear that in-house operation requires continuous effort, specialized know-how, and human resources—resources that are in short supply in many places.
In particular, installations with multiple servers, large databases, and sensitive connections (e.g., to directory services) pose a technical challenge for in-house operations. The result: less time for strategic digitization and more effort for maintenance, updates, security concepts, and backups.
A clear example of this is the town of Ostseebad Kühlungsborn, which decided to switch from a local on-premises installation to the Relution Cloud. Initial concerns about the high migration costs were considerable – especially given the more than 300 devices in use, which were managed in different instances. But with Relution, these fears proved to be unfounded. “It felt like everything was done in an hour,” reports Mathias Weigang, IT administrator for the town of Ostseebad Kühlungsborn. “The move was quick, painless, and went completely smoothly. This shows how portable Relution is.”
After transferring the database to the cloud instance and adjusting the DNS entries, the migration was completed within a day. Operations continue to run via the familiar URL – the change was completely transparent to users. The managed end devices did not need to be re-registered during the migration. The town of Ostseebad Kühlungsborn has thus impressively demonstrated how quickly, securely, and user-friendly the switch to the Relution Cloud can be.
Another customer operated two separate on-premises servers for different clients – with a large database, complex user structure, and numerous end devices. The effort required for administration, maintenance, and updates was enormous.
The desire for simplification led to a conversation with our Relution sales team. It quickly became clear that a switch within the Relution platform—from on-premises to the cloud—is possible without any interruption to operations.
Despite concerns about the amount of data and parallel systems, the migration went smoothly. All that was needed for the successful move was the database, S3 storage, and the existing server address. With support from Relution, the transfer worked right away. Relution support accompanied the entire migration process.
More and more customers are recognizing the advantages of the cloud and are making a conscious decision to switch—because cloud migration is easier than many people think.
The customer provides the existing database (and, if used, the S3 storage).
Relution Support sets up a new instance in the cloud and imports the data into the new cloud instance.
The previous host address of the on-premises instance is forwarded to the new Relution Cloud instance via a DNS entry.
The result: All devices, apps, and certificates remain connected—without any extra work for administrators or interruptions in operations.
Particularly practical: The existing URL address is retained. MDM profiles, certificates, and companion apps continue to function seamlessly. Even complex installations can be easily transferred to the cloud – regardless of the size or complexity of the installation.
Whether you are a school, school authority, or educational institution, switching to Relution Cloud is a viable option for anyone who prioritizes IT support, maximum security, and smooth operation without compromising on control or customization.
Our support team will guide you through the transition—from initial planning to successful migration. Reliable, proven, and technically savvy.
