A partnership at eye level: From Stuttgart for Stuttgart
Playing a home game is always something special. So it was a great success when the city of Stuttgart chose the mobile device management solution from Relution, also from Stuttgart, to manage its digital devices over ten years ago.
A secure data connection between the mobile devices and the network/IT system of the city of Stuttgart is essential for smooth communication. So-called APNs (Access Point Names) regulate access to the websites visited via the sim cards of the devices.
Customer oriented solution
The use of this APN solution brings with it special requirements. When it was decided more than ten years ago to manage the portable devices via a Mobile Device Management (MDM), only Relution was able to offer a custom solution adapted to the wishes of all requested providers. "This flexibility to create customized solutions convinced us and is one of the main reasons why our choice fell on Relution", explains Eckhard Breitling, responsible for Digitization Consulting and Project Management at the Office for Digitization, Organization and IT.
Use in all areas of application of the administration
From the mayor to the janitor; the digitization of public administration is well advanced in Stuttgart. Whether in offices, departments or in the field, electronic devices such as iPhones or iPads are used in all areas. The areas of application are diverse - from the city hall of Stuttgart to secretariats, the fire department, the public order office and libraries. All mobile devices have one thing in common: they are managed securely via Relution. The iPads in the fire department's vehicles, for example, are equipped with specific apps that quickly, accurately and reliably provide information on potentially dangerous goods. Even in libraries, actually the place of analog books, the use of electronic devices and applications opens up entirely new, modern educational opportunities for visitors - such as an interactive scavenger hunt for children. Relution enables the secure, temporary issuance of configured devices, which can be removed from the media cabinets with a reservation and ID card, and locks out unauthorized functions. After the devices are returned, temporary data and browser histories are deleted in compliance with data protection regulations.
Maximum safety
Wherever a lot of personal user data is generated electronically, the question of secure data processing, storage and encryption arises. "The issue of data protection compliance is a top priority for us; we need to protect our data from unauthorized access at all times," says Reiner Kolb, application and system manager in the mobile device management division. "Many MDM systems only offer hosting on an encrypted cloud. However, storing the data on our own local servers (On Premises) has been the only solution to date that meets our high security standards. With Relution, we have full freedom of choice, as both options are possible. This is an important unique selling point," Reiner Kolb continues.
Partnership at eye level
Not only in terms of data protection, but also in human terms and quality, it is a partnership at eye level. "Working with Relution is a lot of fun and always reliable. The software provides us with everything we need for our wide-ranging user portfolio. Our satisfaction is also reflected in the numbers: from the initial 30 licenses, we have grown constantly together with Relution over the years and today successfully manage more than 3,100 device licenses", Eckhard Breitling summarizes.
