Single app mode

Single app mode is a feature for mobile devices that allows them to be configured to run only one application. Access to other apps, settings, or functions is completely blocked. This method is often used to deploy devices specifically for a single task or a targeted environment, eliminating distractions and reducing security risks.

A typical use case for single app mode is the use of devices as terminals or kiosk systems in public spaces, such as customer surveys, digital ticket displays, or order processing. The mode is also applied in schools to restrict student devices to a specific learning app while disabling other device functions.

Compared to kiosk mode, which allows access to one or more predefined apps and often limits user changes, single-app mode offers maximum control. In this mode, the device is restricted to exactly one application, while maintaining flexibility by making it easy to switch between users. While single-app mode focuses on ensuring full control over usage, kiosk mode provides restricted access that can include multiple applications.

From a technical perspective, single app mode is typically configured as part of centralized IT management. Administrators can deploy configurations through specialized management platforms, automatically restricting devices to the designated app. This approach not only reduces administrative efforts but also ensures compliance with security requirements.

One major advantage of single-app mode is its enhanced security. Since users cannot access other applications, the risk of malfunctions, data breaches, or unauthorized access to sensitive areas is significantly minimized. At the same time, this mode offers optimized user guidance, as it restricts access to only the essential features.
