DNS over HTTPS

DNS over HTTPS (DoH) is a technology that transmits DNS queries via the encrypted HTTPS protocol. The Domain Name System (DNS) is a fundamental component of the internet, as it translates domain names (e.g., “example.com”) into IP addresses that computers can process. Traditionally, DNS queries are sent unencrypted, making them vulnerable to interception by third parties or manipulation through attacks such as DNS spoofing. With DoH, these queries are fully encrypted, protecting user privacy and enhancing network security.

DoH uses the HTTPS protocol to treat DNS queries like any other secure web request. Communication between the device and the DNS resolver is encrypted, preventing internet service providers or third parties from viewing the query contents or the accessed pages. This marks a significant upgrade to existing security standards, as DoH effectively eliminates the vulnerabilities of conventional, unencrypted DNS queries. DoH is typically implemented automatically in the background and does not affect network speed or functionality.
